Volunteers Needed
The Society is seeking teams of volunteers for scanning, transcribing and indexing records. A project to scan marriage records and certificates at the Maryland State Archives. If we have commitment from enough members to travel to the Archives and scan records, the Society will invest in a Book Scanner & laptop computer. We have added scanned copies of Marriage record index 1914 – 1930, and the image is OCR in a searchable PDF. The Archives will allow us to scan books & other records with a scanner that does not touch to document in the process of scanning. We have access to a volunteer’s Fujitsu PA03641-B005 Document Scanner, which meets the requirements.
Two people working as a team can control the scanner, move the documents or flip pages and save the scanned images to the computer and transfer the files to Herb. A second group of transcribers will be needed to index the records and create links to the images. There is a big advantage to join the team, while working on the project you may find records for your family. I have found many.
Copies of Marriage records that we scan will be available on the Society’s computers.
